It’s not that the M850i is a slouch (far from it), but those who’d like an even faster 8-Series will have to wait for the M8 – or, alteratively, turn to G-Power.
The German tuning company has revealed that it is developing a tweaked version of the M850i xDrive, which until the advent of the M Division’s full-blown M8 tops the 8-Series family.
Fresh off the factory floor, the BMW M850i pumps out 523 hp and 553 lb-ft (749 Nm) of torque. G-Power is working on not one, but two tuning packages, appropriately dubbed Stage 1 and 2.
BMW Blog reports that the Stage 1 upgrade package will see horsepower soar to 611 hp while torque will jump to 626 lb-ft (850 Nm), giving the car more grunt than the Mercedes-AMG S63. The Stage 2 package will take things to entirely new levels with the headline figures jumping to 660 hp and 656 lb-ft (890 Nm) of torque.
G-Power hasn’t detailed how it will achieve these monumental gains in horsepower and torque, but likely modifications include a new exhaust system, bespoke ECU, and perhaps new turbochargers.
What we can say for sure is that both the Stage 1 and Stage 2 modified M850i xDrive models will be blisteringly fast, maybe even more rapid than the M8 and M8 Competition. Guess we’ll find out sooner or later…
