A kind bus driver in Milwaukee has been praised after rescuing a baby girl who she spotted wandering along a dangerous freeway overpass in late December.
ABC7 New York reports that bus driver Irena Ivic saw the girl standing on the side of the road on December 22 just prior to 8 a.m. Cameras in and on the bus captured what happened next.
After seeing the girl, Ivic immediately pulled over in the bus, jumped out, and swept the baby into her arms. The little girl was then brought straight on to the bus and a passenger wrapped her up in her jacket to keep the girl warm. As Ivic held the girl, she quickly fell asleep.
Local authorities, including police officers, firefighters, and transit security officers soon arrived at the bus and started searching for the girl’s mother.
Police later discovered that the girl had been left outside by her mother who is thought to have been suffering a mental health crisis. The girl was soon reunited with her father.
You don’t have to be a parent to understand that a potential tragedy was avoided thanks to Ivic’s simple actions. This incident serves as an excellent reminder to never turn a blind eye to a child in obvious distress.
