Suzuki Jimny owners are known to hold on to their tiny off-roaders for longer than usual and it looks like things will stay the same with the new generation model.
When and if they decide to part with the Jimny, however, they won’t lose too much money. That’s because the new Jimny is forecast to retain a strong residual value. UK’s leading industry specialists CAP Automotive have released the residual value forecast for the new small off-roader and it’s all good news.
For those owners who plan to keep the Jimny for three years and 60,000 miles (96,560 km), CAP’s January 2019 Gold Book forecasts the range-topping Jimny SZ5 will retain 52 percent of its value.
Factor in a lower mileage of 36,000 miles (57,936 km) over three years and the residual value reaches a Suzuki record-breaking value of 61 percent. That puts the new Jimny up in the Supercar league of cars for retained value, according to CAP Automotive.
Compared to its predecessor, the new Jimny is much better-equipped, with the base SZ4 model offering selectable Allgrip Pro 4WD with a low-range transfer gear, Dual Sensor Brake Support (DSBS), air conditioning, CD Tuner, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, and front fog lamps.
Moving up to the SZ5 adds features such as 15-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, climate control, navigation with smartphone link, rear privacy glass, heated front seats, and body-colored door handles. All models are built on a robust ladder frame chassis and feature 3-link rigid axle suspension with coil springs. A 101hp (102PS) 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine is standard and it works with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission.
The all-new Suzuki Jimny starts at £15,499 in the UK for the SZ4 model while the better-equipped SZ5 is priced from £17,999. Besides the money, you also need some luck to get yourself one as some dealers have stopped taking deposits because of the huge demand that greatly surpasses supply.
