It might be just a stereotype propagated for quite some time, yet BMW drivers tend to get a bad rep, but there are also plenty good ones out there, some of which who tend to hold the E36 3-Series in very high regard.
It may not have been the first ever 3-Series, but the the E36 pretty much led to the rise of the nameplate on a global level, becoming the first 3er to be sold as a saloon, coupe, convertible and touring (station wagon).
The novelties don’t stop there. The E36 was also the first 3-Series to be offered with a hatchback body style (in the Compact) and the first to get a 6-speed manual transmission, a 5-speed automatic and a four-cylinder diesel unit. Many BMW purists still consider it the quintessential 3er and in many ways, it really was.
Although it’s not unusual for older cars to carry on without their owners caring too much, or simply taken to the scrapyard, this one had us baffled. Why would anyone do this to a 3-Series? In theory, you could describe it as having been fitted with a wide-body kit, custom hood, new spoiler, dual tone wheels and large rear wing.
The truth is that this… thing is absolutely horrid – and that may very well be the understatement of the century. No need to elaborate too much; just look at it! Have you ever seen a worse E36?
