Who would own a sports car and leave it in limbo for decades, and why? There are many answers, as this happens more often than one might think, and when uncovered, the cars gets listed for grabs, usually with exorbitant asking prices.

The latest one to have been in storage for a very long period is a Ford Mustang Mach 1. The muscle car was bought new in 1969, and 9 years later, it was sold to the current vendor, who only drove it for about three years before leaving it in a climate-controlled garage for the next 38 years.

Thanks to the ideal environment in which it has been kept for the past four decades, the Mustang has no rust. Also, it’s said to be completely original, with a black on black look and the factory tires that are now 50 years old – and, of course, must be replaced ASAP.

With some TLC, it can look as good as new, but even so it runs and stops with no problems after paying a recent visit to the mechanic. Nonetheless, it should be properly serviced and checked before being taken to the streets.

The vendor says he doesn’t like talking to people, so he won’t give out his phone number, but he will answer any questions related to the car as best as he can, given that he’s not a connoisseur. The reserve is being kept private for the time being, and at the time of writing, 47 bids have raised the price to $48,100, with just a little over 4 days left in the online auction.

If you’re interested, you can check it out on eBay, but bear in mind that the vendor could end the online auction at any time, as he has it listed elsewhere as well.
