Costing $800 more than its predecessor, the redesigned Corolla L doesn’t shout entry-level as it comes nicely equipped with LED headlights, LED taillights and body-color exterior components. The only item that betrays the car’s affordable pricing is the standard 15-inch steel wheels.

Moving in the cabin, drivers will find a tilt/telescopic three-spoke steering wheel, fabric seats and an analog instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch Multi-Information Display. Other niceties include power windows / locks, a six-speaker audio system and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

The Corolla L also comes equipped with a rearview camera and the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suite of driver assistance systems. The latter includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Auto High Beam Headlights, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Road Sign Assist and Lane Tracing Assist.

Motivation is provided by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 139 hp (103 kW / 141 PS) and 126 lb-ft (170 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a continuously variable transmission which sends power to the front wheels.

Corolla LE

The Corolla LE is $450 more expensive than the L, but it rewards buyers with an upgraded interior that includes premium fabric seats, metallic trim and an additional USB port. The model also features a larger 8-inch infotainment system and a rear seat with a center armrest.

Exterior changes are minor, but include heated exterior mirrors, variable intermittent windshield wipers and larger 16-inch steel wheels.

For an additional $2,000 customers can order the LE package. It includes higher end features such as a keyless entry system, a moonroof and a blind spot monitoring system. The package also includes 16-inch alloy wheels.

Corolla XLE

Moving up to the Corolla XLE costs $23,950. However, the model comes equipped with premium LED headlights and a moonroof. The car also features 16-inch alloy wheels, a blind spot warning system and mirrors with integrated turn signals.

Bigger changes occur in the cabin as drivers will find SofTex heated front seats with 8-way power adjustment on the driver’s side. Other highlights include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a keyless entry system and a 7-inch Multi-Information Display in the instrument cluster.

A handful of options are available including a $450 Advanced Lighting package that adds adaptive headlights and ambient interior lighting. Customers can also order a $1,715 Premium Audio package which adds a wireless smartphone charger and a nine-speaker JBL audio system with a subwoofer.

Corolla SE

Buyers looking for something sportier can opt for the Corolla SE CVT which starts at $21,950. It features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 169 hp (126 kW / 171 PS) and 151 lb-ft (204 Nm) of torque.

The car’s sporting image is backed up external styling tweaks including a sport mesh grille, gray metallic side skirts and a body-color rear spoiler. The model also has a dual exhaust system and 18-inch alloy wheels with black accents.

The interior isn’t as luxurious as one on the Corolla XLE, but drivers will find premium sport seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Customers can also order a blind spot monitor, a moonroof and a JBL audio system.

The Corolla SE with the manual transmission costs $22,650 which makes it $700 more expensive than the CVT variant. Toyota officials were quick to point out this isn’t an upcharge for the manual as car comes equipped with additional equipment including a moonroof and a keyless entry system.

Corolla XSE

Sitting at the top of the range is the Corolla XSE which starts at $25,450. It’s fully loaded with SofTex upholstery, heated front seats and an 8-way power driver’s seat. The model also has a blind spot warning system, a gray metallic rear spoiler, a keyless entry system and a 7-inch Multi-Information Display.

Buyers looking for more features can order a JBL premium audio system, a wireless smartphone charger, ambient interior lighting and adaptive headlights.

Last but not least, the Corolla LE Hybrid has a base price of $22,950. The model is similar to the Corolla LE, but it features a keyless entry system, a 7-inch Multi-Information Display and 15-inch alloy wheels. Of course, the biggest change is the car’s hybrid powertrain which produces a combined output of 121 hp (90 kW / 122 PS).
