BMW‘s fourth-generation E39 5-Series is one of the Bavarian firm’s most critically acclaimed models in terms of design – at least in recent years. In fact, many still consider it the quintessential 5er, with an exterior that’s both elegant as well as sporty.
It was also the first 5-Series to use aluminum components for the front suspension, rack and pinion steering and a four-cylinder diesel engine. To this day, it remains a very capable and comfortable long-distance cruiser, one that some people might not want to see modified to look like anything else.
Hold that thought
These images recently surfaced on Reddit, where users The_Utah_Guy and ThorOfTheAsgard spotted a silver 5-Series sedan that looked very much like one of America’s most iconic sports cars when viewed from behind. We should note that this very same car was first spotted back in August, only that time it was on the road instead of stationary.
It’s hard to say exactly which Corvette rear end was used as inspiration for this mod – it was either the C5 or the C6, and we’re leaning towards the C5 ever so slightly, although the taillights aren’t exactly accurate in either case. So let’s just call this a “generic” Corvette design, one that also includes a three pipe exhaust system, which may or may not be there just for show.
In the end, while we can’t exactly fault the execution, we’re pretty sure that plenty of you will take issue with what this E39 5-Series owner did to their fine German saloon.
