in November 2018 Fiat unveiled a concept vehicle at the Sao Paulo Auto Show in Brazil, dubbed the Fastback. It was designed locally and will supposedly stand as a first taste of things to come from the automaker in that particular region.
Since then, we’ve also learned that Fiat will build a production version of the Fastback Concept, which will hit showrooms in 2020.
According to Fiat, the Fastback is kind of a mix between an SUV, a sedan and a coupe. The Toro pickup truck was also used as inspiration, but ultimately, this is more of a stylish crossover, with a sloping roofline and a raised rear end – so the SUV Coupe tag works just fine.
While the concept vehicle didn’t have traditional door mirrors (or door handles for that matter), these renderings courtesy of Aksyonov Nikita certainly do, giving us a taste of what a production version of the Fastback might look like.
Sure, Fiat didn’t say anything about an Abarth version of the Fastback during the concept’s launch, and you can bet that it won’t happen. It doesn’t hurt to imagine how it might look, though. As you can see, more aggressive-looking wheels, a thicker diffuser and a sporty livery can go a long way.
The production model will, as we mentioned, be sold in South America, but it would make for a nice Renault Arkana rival if, somehow, it were to make it to Russia, too – or vice versa.
