Hennessey Performance is developing tuning packages for the McLaren 600LT, the most extreme of which lifts power beyond the 1000 hp mark.
Company boss John Hennessey made the revelation to Top Gear, stating that the Texas tuner wants to make a 600LT that can rival McLaren’s own 1036 hp Speedtail hypercar in a sprint to 150 mph (241 km/h).
“I decided to buy my 600LT for the same reason I bought a new Ford GT, to give our team a solid benchmark for our Venom F5.”
No stock supercar is fast enough for Hennessey
Hennessey didn’t buy the 600LT with the express intention of modifying it but, after his first drive, he decided it could do with a little extra grunt. Currently, three upgrade packages are in the works.
The entry-level 600LT from Hennessey will boast 708 hp and reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in as little as 2.6 seconds. Next up will be an 805 hp that’ll sprint to 62 mph in 2.4 seconds. Hennessey believes the range-topping HPE1000 variant with 1001 hp and 865 lb-ft (1172 Nm) will hit 62 mph in just 2.1 seconds and be capable of doing the quarter mile in a mere 9.6 seconds at 156 mph (251 km/h).
The HPE1000 will achieve these lofty performance goals thanks to upgraded turbochargers, bespoke stainless steel turbo headers, a Motec ECU, high-flow air filters, stainless steel exhaust, upgraded intercooler, high-flow wastegate, and an upgraded transmission.
