The Maserati GranTurismo still looks pretty good after more than a decade on the market, but one man wanted the car so bad they robbed a dealership at gunpoint.
The incident occurred in Charlotte, North Carolina last week when a man walked into the Gulf Export dealership and allegedly pointed a gun at employees in a back office. WSOC spoke to one of the employees who said the man had a towel wrapped around the gun and demanded keys to a 2008 Maserati GranTurismo which the dealership had listed for nearly $32,000 (£24,875 / € 28,373).
After being given the keys, the robber left the dealership and took off with the car. The entire incident reportedly took just five minutes.
No one was harmed in the incident, but it was pretty brazen as the station noted the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office is located right in front of the dealership. That’s pretty bold and it appears this wasn’t even the man’s first attempt to steal the car.
According to dealership employee Mamoun Bahrour, the man attempted to steal the Maserati earlier in the week but apparently couldn’t find the keys. He tried again the following day, but the alarm went off and police began to chase him.
The man escaped that failed attempt and is still apparently on the run. Unfortunately, security cameras didn’t get a very good look at him because he was wearing a hoodie.
