A few short years ago, the McLaren 675LT was regarded as one of the best supercars on the market and lauded as a breakthrough for the British manufacturer.
Following a similar philosophy to stripped-back, hardcore vehicles from Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche, the 675LT improved upon the 650S not just with some extra power but a multitude of steering and suspension alterations that made it feel like a completely different car. It’s hardly a surprise then that McLaren soon decided to use the ‘LT’ moniker for its future hardcore models.
Just 500 examples of the 675LT Coupe (and an additional 500 Spiders) were built before it was replaced by the all-conquering 720S. Since arriving a couple of years ago, the 720S has proven itself to be one of the fastest vehicles on the planet. It even makes the 675LT seem slow, as the video below shows. Yes, it’s that fast.
Brooks from the YouTube DragTimes channel is the proud owner of a 720S and pitted it against a red 675LT in a pair of drag races.
In the first, the launch control system of the 675LT failed to engage, allowing the 720S to disappear into the distance. In the second race, however, the duo did get off the line fairly evenly but still, the 720S streaks away with a comfortable win.
The first modern McLaren, the MP4-12C, was launched in 2011, and the automaker has since continually and rapidly introduced new and better models, with the 720S showing just how far things have come in just a few years. We can’t even begin to imagine what the LT version of the 720S will be like.
