A company out of the U.S. has created a fastback-style bed for the Ford F-150, and it is intriguing to say the least.

The Drive first stumbled upon a single image of a Ford F-150 Fastback on social media and with a little bit of investigation, soon found out that a company called Michigan Vehicle Solutions is responsible for the sleek bed cap.

Dubbed ‘Aero X’, it takes inspiration from the louvered roofline of the 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1.

While most bed caps are used almost exclusively to increase the cargo space of a pickup truck, the Michigan Vehicle Solutions Aero X doesn’t just add practicality, but style, too, even at the expense of outright loading capacity.

The Aero X is constructed from fiberglass and weighs 260 lbs (117 kg). Not only does it incorporate a louvered rear window and has the effect of stretching out the F-150’s roofline, it also includes a lockable clamshell opening and even a sound system.

The Michigan company will sell the Aero X bed cap for $3,995, but at the time of writing, it was only available for 2015 Ford F-150 models with the 5.5-foot and 6.5-foot beds. However, there are plans to offer the Aero X bed cap for other Ford, Chevrolet, Ram, Toyota, and Nissan pickup trucks.

Speaking about the bed cap to The Drive, Michigan Vehicle Solutions chief executive Rich Oliver said the company simply commissioned some renderings of the bed cap before deciding to put it into production, at a rate of eight to 10 units each week.
