The Los Angeles Rams will battle the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LIII this weekend, so GMC thought it was a perfect opportunity to poke fun at Ram.
As noticed by The Drive, GMC tweeted a video saying “The Rams already lost” and then showed a Ram tailgate before promoting its six-position MultiPro tailgate on the 2019 Sierra. While this isn’t too exciting, Ram fired back with an interestingly reply.
In their tweet, Ram posted a gif of a referee and stated “Flag on the play. False start. Check back with us on 2/7/19.” That date corresponds with Ram’s press conference at the Chicago Auto Show and it could be a subtle hint that the company will unveil its own multi-function tailgate in the Windy City.

There’s no word on what to expect, but FCA has previously applied for a pretty interesting patent that would make loading ATVs and dirt bikes a breeze. Filed back in 2015, the patent showed a bed with integrated ramps that could be pulled out through the tailgate. The ramps could then be moved side to side to match the track of ATVs or pushed together to create a wider single ramp for dirt bikes and snowmobiles.
While Ram got the upper hand on GMC, that didn’t stop the company from firing back. Since their tweet noted the Ram 1500 was the unanimous winner of Motor Trend’s Truck of The Year award, GMC said “Congrats … Have a hot dog on us… and on an old tailgate.”
