A car shopper at a Hyundai dealership in Mandi, India has been left red-faced after crashing an Elite i20 out of the showroom.
Dealer showrooms are a place where new and pre-owned vehicles are shown to customers. They are not a place to perform test drives in. However, that’s exactly what the woman in the following video did after jumping behind the wheel of the hatchback.
CCTV footage, captured on February 18, shows the shopper sitting in the Hyundai Elite i20 as a dealership employee talks with her parents next to the vehicle.
The customer seems to have been handed a key by the salesman, perhaps to check out some of the vehicle’s interior functions. Suddenly, the woman hits the accelerator pedal and drives straight out of the showroom. In the process, she smashes through a large glass window and drops down about 3 feet before rear-ending two Hyundais in the dealerships parking area.
The carnage only ended after the woman slammed into these two other Hyundai models.
Local publication Drives Park speculates that the woman may have turned on the vehicle’s engine and accidentally hit the accelerator pedal and kept the throttle pinned in a panic. If this is what happened, the car shopper may have also disengaged the handbrake.
Total damages caused in the accident are thought to be in the region of 400,000 Indian Rupees or $5,630 at current exchange rates. For the sake of the customer’s bank account, we hope the dealership’s insurance policy includes coverage for things like this.
If not, then she may not be getting a new Hyundai until she proves to her parents that she can drive…
