Prices for many classic Japanese sports cars are on the rise, but as it turns out, you don’t need ridiculous amounts of money to get the keys to one of them. This 1983 Datsun 280ZX is the perfect example of that.
Nissan built the sports car between 1978 and 1983 and, depending on the market, sold it as the Datsun 280ZX, Nissan Fairlady Z, or Nissan Fairlady 280Z. The sports car replaced the 240Z, 260Z, and 280Z and has one of the most iconic shapes of any Nissan production car.
A very nice example has recently come across our eBay radar and with a price of $14,950, it probably won’t remain up for sale for very long.
A classic Japanese sports car at a ‘cheap’ price
Powering the 280zx is a turbocharged 2.8-liter inline-six cylinder with 180 HP. Coupled to this engine was a five-speed manual transmission and, despite its low output, the car could hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in a touch over 7 seconds. We don’t know the state this particular 280ZX’s motor is in, but the whole car looks extremely clean and well preserved – and that includes the engine bay.
The seller claims that the vehicle is in solid condition and comes with the available T-top. Additionally, it retains the original (optional) wheels, its electronics are fully functional, and has a well-maintained underside.
Inside, this example retains its unique two-spoke steering wheel, black plastic dashboard, factory AM/FM radio cassette, remote power mirrors, and a working air conditioning. The 280ZX has a touch over 103,000 miles (165,000 km) under its belt. Would you be tempted to spend $15k on such a high mileage, yet great looking, 280ZX or rather go for something else?
