One day after teasing the new, Euro-spec Kuga SUV that’s due to be unveiled on April 2, Ford has done the same with its North American counterpart, the all-new 2020 Escape that will also be launched on the same date.

The teaser published on social media offers glimpses of the Escape’s new exterior design and shows off elements including the front grille, taillights, and tailgate. While it doesn’t provide us with a detailed look at any of these parts, it’s obvious that the new Escape will look quite a lot different than the outgoing model.

Ford has been developing the new Escape for quite some time and documents leaked last month confirmed that the compact SUV will be built at the Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky – the same location where the current Escape comes to life.

U.S. customers will have three engines to choose from. The first will be an entry-level 1.5-liter three-cylinder that will replace the 1.5-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder currently on offer. It remains to be seen how much power this three-pot will have, but those wanting more grunt will be able to opt for a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder delivering 237 hp. Sitting at the top of the powertrain line-up will be a plug-in hybrid with a 2.5-liter petrol engine.

The 2020 Escape will be offered in four different trims dubbed S, SE, SEL, and Titanium, all of which will be available with all-wheel drive, while the plug-in hybrid version won’t be offered in the base S grade.

The new Ford Escape is expected to come with a redesigned interior that incorporates a new infotainment system with Ford Sync3, a new B&O audio system and Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 system.
