Jeep is in the midst of developing an all-new Grand Wagoneer but will it be as special as the model it replaces? It’s hard to say but the automaker will definitely have its work cut out in ensuring the new SUV lives up to its name.
Jeep introduced the original Grand Wagoneer back in 1984 and it proved to be quite popular. The vehicle would go on to be produced through to 1987 under the leadership of American Motors Corporation. When Chrysler purchased AMC, the Grand Wagoneer continued to be made for a few more years before being phased out in 1993 with a limited-run version based on the Jeep ZJ platform.
Finding an original Grand Wagoneer in reasonable condition is difficult, but the following example for sale on eBay looks to be one of the best we’ve come across.
The seller asserts that the vehicle has been stored in a barn since 2004 but the paint on the hood has been damaged. Parts of the iconic wood grain paneling has also flaked off but from afar, these damaged parts aren’t clearly visible.
The vehicle’s odometer sits at around 150,000 miles (241,000 km). While that’s a lot, the interior is in surprisingly good condition and none of the red leather or carpeting appears to be faded. The Grand Wagoneer also features a rear window which can be opened and closed at the press of a button.
Powering the vehicle is a hefty V8 engine that drives all four wheels through an automatic transmission.
At the time of writing, the eBay auction had attracted 42 bids, the highest of which was sitting at $11,100.
