If you want a brand new, C7-generation Chevrolet Corvette that offers earth-shattering performance, you have one choice: the Corvette ZR1. However, if the 755 HP Corvette isn’t quick enough for you, there are a number of aftermarket specialists that will be glad to help out – and one of the first names that spring to mind is Hennessey Performance.
The Texas tuner sprinkles its magic tuning dust on virtually every new American (and some foreign ones) performance vehicle and has recently done just that with the Corvette Grand Sport.
Hennessey has named its latest creation the HPE1000 Grand Sport. The car starts out life as a regular Corvette Grand Sport and when it gets to Hennessey it has its 6.2-liter V8 fitted with a massive centrifugal supercharger and an upgraded fuel system that results in a total of 1008 HP at 6500 rpm and 918 lb-ft (1244 Nm) of torque at 4000 rpm.

In a straight-line, the company claims these extraordinary figures allow the HPE1000 ‘Vette to reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 2.5 seconds and do the quarter mile in 9.7 seconds at 147 mph (236 km/h). What’s more, the car will top out at 220 mph (354 km/h). Those who know anything about high-performance sports cars will know that these figures are usually reserved for multi-million dollar European exotics.
As standard, the Corvette Grand Sport is perhaps the best bang-for-your-buck model in the Corvette range. The sports car is powered by the same 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 as the Stingray but is fitted with the chassis of the Z06, making for a much sportier ride.
