One of the hidden gems of McLaren’s stand at the Geneva Motor Show is a special 720S Spider upgraded by McLaren Special Operations. It may not be turning as many heads as the Speedtail, but it is still quite special.
Like other vehicles presented in recent years, the 720S Spider hasn’t been created as a production model and instead serves to show just how far MSO can go in customization. With that being said, McLaren global communications director Wayne Bruce told us the company has received some interest from customers looking to recreate the car.
Doing so won’t be cheap. In fact, Bruce told us that ordering a 720S Spider exactly like the Geneva show car will cost roughly £400,000 ($523,000). To put that into perspective, prices for the 720S Spider start at $315,000 in the U.S. Do the math and that means the MSO model has been outfitted with more than $200,000 worth of custom touches.
The most obvious point of difference between the MSO car at Geneva and any regular 720S Spider is the Meteorite Grey paint, which incorporates a number of blue accents across the lower portion of the vehicle’s body. In addition, the car includes a gloss carbon fiber tonneau cover and carbon fiber on the rear diffuser and B-pillars. Also included are the optional sports exhaust system, Stealth pack and the Electrochromic glass in the retractable hard top.
Inside, the MSO 720S Spider includes carbon fiber seat backs, MSO Bespoke branding, Burton Blue Alcantara, and Jet Black leather. Of course, this is just one spec; McLaren’s specialist division will be more than happy to customize each supercar to its owner’s desires. And no, if you have to ask, you can’t afford it.
