Aggressive drivers are common sight on the highway, especially if you live in California.

According to a new study from GasBuddy, the most aggressive drivers in the United States are in Los Angeles. California was prominently featured on the top ten list as Sacramento was deemed the third most aggressive city, while San Francisco was fifth. San Diego also nabbed the title as the sixth most aggressive city.

While California is notorious for aggressive driving, several East Coast cities also made the top ten list. Philadelphia came in second and was followed by Atlanta (fourth) and Orlando (seventh).

Rounding out the top ten is Detroit (eighth), Austin, Texas (ninth) and Las Vegas (tenth).

According to GasBuddy, the rankings were determined by examining data collected by the Drives feature of the GasBuddy app. Enrolling in the service allows GasBuddy to collect GPS data and other sensor information from your smartphone. While the service is primarily aimed to improving your fuel efficiency, the data can also be used to determine “when and where a poor driving habit occurred.”

As part of the study, the company looked at data collected in the 30 largest metropolitan areas by population. GasBuddy then examined a number of bad driving habits including speeding, hard-braking events and periods of rapid acceleration.

The worst cities for hard-braking events were Philadelphia, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Speeding, on the other hand, was most prevalent in San Diego, Orlando and Detroit. Lastly, rapid acceleration was common in Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Las Vegas.

The study also found that most aggressive driving events occur on Fridays. This isn’t too surprisingly as many people are probably in a rush to get home and enjoy their weekend.
