A sergeant with the Nebraska State Patrol recently got a bit of a surprise when they decided to investigate a car parked on the street in the city of Chadron.
As you can see in this body cam video, Sgt. Downing gets out of his patrol vehicle and slowly approaches a snow covered car. As he gets closer, he’s shocked to discover it isn’t a snow covered vehicle but rather a Ford Mustang created entirely out of snow.
His surprise is clearly audible as he mutters “What in the heck” before taking a quick walk around the snow sculpture. After admiring it for a bit, Downing remarks “Some people make snowmen. Not the people in the northwest corner of the panhandle, they make snow cars.”

Interestingly, Downing doesn’t appear to have been the first police officer to have investigated the Snow Stang. The video appears to show a yellow parking ticket on the ‘windshield,’ but it’s unclear if that’s real or simply part of the prank.
Regardless, the snow car is pretty convincing – especially at a distance. Given how life like it is, it’s not surprising that Downing decided to investigate in the first place.
Of course, this isn’t the first time this has happened. Last year, Montreal resident Simon Laprise created a different snow car complete with a real windshield wiper. An officer went to ticket the car, but quickly discovered it was fake. In that case, police left Laprise a message saying “You made our night hahahahaha :)”
Sgt. Downing came across an awesome find yesterday in Chadron.
