If you’re interested in becoming a classic car collector, then we may have found just the type of vehicle you could start with, as it’s in reasonably good shape and doesn’t have a dizzying asking price.
This is a late, first-generation 1972 Ford Mustang equipped with the Mach 1 package.
According to the eBay ad, the exterior features a Gold Glow paint job, as well as several Mach 1 options such as the Ginger interior with deluxe wood trim door panels and the Mach 1 full gauge package.
The seller says that all the gauges work and that the car’s original 302 engine (4.9-liter Windsor V8) has been rebuilt with a small cam, so it now “runs great”. Other features include a new starter, 3-speed C4 automatic transmission, power-assisted disc brakes and power steering.
Visually, the air dam spoiler and rear window louvers make this Fastback stand out among other classic Mustangs. Of course, if that doesn’t do the trick, the Mach 1 graphics will, as would the dual-scooped hood, a no-cost option on 302 models and standard on all others.
It’s worth mentioning that if this car was actually built in 1972, this means that its 4.9-liter V8 engine was downgraded from 210 HP to just 140 HP due to the switch to new SAE net horsepower calculations. The 302 Windsor endured as the base Mach 1’s power unit, and was later fitted to the third-gen Mach 1 that was based on the 2nd-gen Mustang.
To be fair, this car is far from being in mint condition. The interior needs work and judging by how certain plastic panels seem to hang askew, the exterior could use some care as well, so you should factor in some extra cash on top of the car’s price, which currently stands at $17,000.
