Earlier this week, M2K Motorsports set a new top speed record for a road-legal car when its 2006 Ford GT hit an extraordinary 300.4 mph (483.44 km/h). Now an onboard video of that record run has been posted online.
The video was filmed at the recent Texas Mile event and shows just how extraordinarily fast the tuned GT is. In fact, it seems as though the car has more than enough power to comfortably exceed 300 mph if it had the room to do so.
Off the line, the vehicle’s 5.4-liter V8, which reportedly pumps out 2500 hp, makes it spin up its rear wheels, losing some time up. However, when it finds grip, it picks up the pace and rockets forward at truly mind-blowing speeds. At the eight-second mark, the GT storms past 124 mph (200 km/h) and less than two seconds later, it’s doing 155 mph (250 km/h).
Just 13 seconds after taking off, it hits 200 mph (320 km/h). To put that into perspective, McLaren’s upcoming Speedtail hyper-GT will allegedly hit 186 mph (300 km/h) in 12.8 seconds. At 17 seconds, the GT exceeds 253 mph (407 km/h), the top speed of the Bugatti Veyron, and 22 seconds after setting off, it hits the 300 mph (483 km/h) mark before the driver pulls the parachute and brings the car to a halt.
Sure, this second-gen Ford GT is highly tuned, but that doesn’t make its performance any less impressive.
