A truck caused extensive car and train delays in Dublin, Ireland last week after slamming into a train overpass.
CCTV footage shows the moment the large Scania semi-truck approaches the train bridge. As it nears the bridge, it’s obvious that it is far too high to fit under but, for whatever reason, the trucker thought the vehicle would be able to slide under with no issues. It couldn’t.
Moments after the cab of the truck slides through, the trailer smashes into the bridge as it was at least a foot too tall. This hefty impact jolts the entire truck and pushes it to a 45-degree angle before it becomes wedged and stuck under the bridge.
Unfortunately for the driver of the truck, this wasn’t just any old railway bridge. The bridge just so happened to be part of Connolly Station, the busiest railway station in the entire country.
The Journal reports that services between Connolly Station and Pearse Station were suspended for a little over an hour because of the crash. The road was also blocked off until the truck could be removed and the bridge was inspected.
Immediately following the crash, Irish Rail spokesperson Barry Kenny said that the incident would indeed delay services.
“Typically, it wouldn’t be a prolonged closure for these things but each incident is different. We will have to check to verify that there isn’t any structural damage,” he said.
