In an era where everyone and their mothers use smartphones to film everything they see and the streets are constantly monitored by surveillance cams, it’s getting increasingly difficult to pull off an insurance scam.
The life of the insurance scammers is also made harder by the fact that more and more drivers fit dashcams to their cars to be able to demonstrate their innocence in case of an accident. As it turns out, dashcams are also a good weapon against insurance scammers and the following video is solid proof.
Shot in Baltimore, Maryland, the footage reveals a lame attempt from a pedestrian to squeeze money from an unsuspecting driver whose only fault was to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Fortunately, the driver had their car fitted with a dashcam and it’s safe to say the camera paid for itself by capturing this incident alone.
As the driver approaches a bus station, we see a man wearing a hoodie and sunglasses suddenly throw himself on the hood of the cammer’s car. Given how slow the car was moving at the time and the fact that the fraudster didn’t even take his hands out of his pockets during impact, we’re guessing the car was the only one to suffer any damage — the pedestrian left a sizeable dent in the hood.
We don’t know what happened next as the video cuts off right after the pedestrian lands on the asphalt. However, we imagine he had a big surprise when he realized his shenanigans were caught on camera. To add insult to injury, a police car was parked just across the street from the scene of the so-called accident.
