Xpeng Motors has dropped a teaser previewing its latest model that’s set to premiere at the Shanghai Auto Show next month.
Xpeng first came across our radar with the release of the G3 SUV last year. Since then, the Chinese electric car manufacturer has been developing a new four-door sedan which it dubs a “mass production model.” The vehicle, codenamed E28, has been pencilled in for a commercial launch at the end of 2019.
Limited details about its electric powertrain have been provided, but Xpeng claims that the E28 will come equipped with Nvidia’s AI supercompeting platform which supports Level 3 autonomous driving features. The E28 is also set to have an impressive driving range as well as decent levels of performance.
“Our in-house operating system and proprietary autonomous driving software built on NVidia’s powerful Xavier chip make E28 the most advanced production model in terms of user interface design and intelligent features in today’s China auto market,” vice president of Xpeng’s autonomous driving unit Xinzhou Wu said.
Visually, the single teaser image of the vehicle provided and the various shots of E28 prototypes reveal that the sedan will have a sleek design with a short front overhang, frameless doors, concealed door handles, and a panoramic sunroof. There’s also a very short rear decklid and a small lip spoiler on the trunk.
Xpeng will confirm more details regarding the vehicle in the coming weeks leading up to the Shanghai Auto Show.
