A little-known company called Redux has arrived to breathe life into the iconic BMW E30 M3.
Much like Singer with classic Porsche 911s, Redux specializes in restoring and modifying E30-generation M3s. The model pictured here is one of just 30 units that will be built, at an undisclosed, for now, sum.
The project starts out with a bog-standard E30 M3. Owners can either source their own car or have Redux find one for them. In both cases, Redux will strip the car back to its bare metal and, if required, the chassis will be straightened out. The company also goes to the trouble of blasting off all the standard paint, repairing any sections with rust and installing new mounting points.
Then Redux turns its attention to the powertrain. The naturally-aspirated 2.3-liter four-cylinder of the M3 is bored out to 2.5-liters and outfitted with custom connecting rods, pistons and a crankshaft from BMW Motorsport. The company hasn’t said how much power its E30 pumps out in naturally-aspirated guise, but says it can fit the four-cylinder with a turbocharger that lifts grunt to 387 hp and 390 lb-ft (528 Nm) of torque.
This particular M3 is fitted with a six-speed manual transmission, but future models will have a five-speed. Regardless of whether the customer opts for a naturally aspirated or turbocharged engine, the transmission includes a custom flywheel, heavy-duty driveshafts an upgraded diff and a hand-made steel exhaust.
To ensure the car stops as well as it goes, AP Racing six-piston calipers with 330 mm discs are fitted up front, while at the rear, there are four-piston calipers with 304 mm discs. Redux also outfits its modified M3s with a special EXE-TC Competition suspension that comes with three-way adjustable dampers as standard and four-way adjustable ones as an option.
As you’d imagine, Redux also works on the car’s exterior and interior. As mentioned, the car’s original paint is sandblasted off and a fresh coat of paint is applied. Additionally, the car includes forged aluminum monoblock wheels as standard, while center-looking items are an option. The cabin can be fitted with a half-cage, full cage, or no cage at all and includes customized trim to suit the customers’ taste.
