Chevrolet is counting down the days until the unveiling of the 2020 Corvette and the automaker is giving us our first official look at the car’s updated emblem.

While we’ve already seen it before in our exclusive interior pictures, the new emblem is an evolution of the one used on the C7. It’s more compact than before as the flags are tightly connected then branch off at an angle. The design has also been lightly modified as there’s no longer a mark underneath the symbol on the bowtie side.

Chevrolet didn’t have much to say about the logo, but explained “every generation has had its own unique design, with an iconic emblem that reflects the spirit of Corvette.” The company then noted “the evolution of the crossed flags emblem” as well as the updated Corvette script.

The 2020 Corvette C8 will be unveiled on July 18th and it will be a radical departure from its predecessor as it will feature a mid-engine design and supercar styling.  Speaking of the latter, the model will have a more aggressive front fascia with an angular nose that is flanked by large intakes.

The dramatic styling continues further back as the Corvette has a rakish windscreen, streamlined bodywork and prominent side scoops.  Elsewhere, there’s a four tailpipe exhaust system and a small rear wing.

Chevrolet has been tight-lipped about performance specifications, but the Corvette is slated to be launched with a 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces around 500 hp (373 kW / 507 PS). It will be connected to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission which sends power to the rear wheels.

Following the initial launch, Chevrolet will roll out high-performance variants including one that is rumored to have between 900 hp (671 kW / 912 PS) and 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1,014 PS).
