To say the new Suzuki Jimny has been well-received would be an understatement. In fact, people are clamoring to buy the new off-roader and last year, demand was actually out-stripping supply.

Certainly, one of the reasons why the new Jimny has proven so popular is its looks. The new Jimny has a boxier shape than its predecessor and from many angles, looks like a small version of Mercedes-Benz’s ever-popular G-Class.

The similarities between the duo have even led some tuning companies to create Jimny bodykits that help it resemble the G-Class even more closely.

In the name of fun, CarWow recently decided to pit the new Jimny against a Mercedes-AMG G63 in a tug of war to see if the similarities are more than skin deep.

The cute Jimny might just be more lovable than the G63

Initially, the challenge starts with one Jimny going head-to-head with the G63. Obviously, the Mercedes easily wins. This isn’t surprising when you consider the G63 has a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine with 577 hp and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque. By comparison, the tiny Jimny features a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated engine with 100 hp and 102 lb-ft (138 Nm) of twisting force.

To give the Suzuki any chance, CarWow had to make things a little fairer. To do so, they brought in a second Jimny – but not even two Jimnys could take down the G63. A third Jimny was then called into action and finally, the tiny Japanese off-roaders were able to out-pull the Mercedes.

What’s amazing is that a trio of Jimnys only has 300 hp and 306 lb-ft (414 Nm) of combined torque, virtually half that of a single G-Class. That’s OK though, because depending on where you live, you could buy 10 Jimnys for the price of a single G63.
