It may be hard to believe but, despite his company building some of the world’s most powerful and fastest cars, Christian von Koenigsegg doesn’t really own one.
Instead, Koenigsegg’s founder and CEO usually gets around in a Tesla Model S P85 and has a Model 3 on the way. His wife, Halldora von Koenigsegg, drives a Volvo XC90 and a Porsche 911 Targa, but recently, the couple added another vehicle to their garage. No, it is not a supercar. Not even close.
Instead, Christian von Koenigsegg collected the keys to a 1992 Mazda MX-5 roughly eight months ago. This isn’t just any MX-5, but the exact same car von Koenigsegg owned around the time his company was founded a quarter of a century ago.

Speaking with Road and Track, Christian revealed he was reunited with his Mazda when a Koenigsegg employee stumbled upon it at a Swedish car show.
“My first MX-5 has been back in my hands for about eight months,” he told the publication. “Our transport manager went to a car show on a Swedish island called Öland, and there was this black Mazda MX-5 that said it ‘used to be Christian von Koenigsegg’s car.’ So, he called me up and I spoke to the owner.
“I overpaid a little bit to get it back, but now I can enjoy it on warm summer days! It’s in great condition, and it’s actually as enjoyable as I remembered to drive!” von Koenigsegg said.
The MX-5 may not have much power but it’s still regarded as one of the best sports cars ever built. A man used to building vehicles with well over 1,000 hp could easily disregard a car like Mazda’s small roadster, but von Koenigsegg says the car is a “good example on how you can have fun with a car with almost no power.”
