Police often put their lives on the line on a daily basis, and one officer in Spain unfortunately proved this after being hit by an inattentive driver.
The following video was shared on the Policias.es page on Facebook and shows at least two officers having stopped at the side of a two-lane highway.
As one of the officers closes the side door to the Ford police cruiser, an SUV speeds into the frame and hits him at high speed. The officer is violently thrown to the ground and appears to hit his head very hard. One man can then be seen rushing out to of the police cruiser, while a second officer jumps in the car, probably to call for assistance.
Looking at the video in slow motion reveals that the car that hit the officer is a white Lexus RX. Initially, it appears as though the driver drives on; however, they can be seen pulling over to the side of the road further up. Traffic slows around the injured officer and other motorists pull over to help.
It’s impossible to say from this video alone what kind of injuries the officer sustained from the collision, but the man can be seen slowly moving, so we hope that they weren’t serious or, worse, life-threatening.
This incident clearly shows the importance of being vigilant at all times when behind the wheel, as you never know what you’re going to encounter. Keeping your speed at a reasonable level, so that you can react in time in case you have to make an avoidance maneuver, is also equally important.
