If money was no object, would you rather buy the iconic Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR or the forthcoming AMG One hybrid hypercar? We’d probably take the former.

Sure, the new AMG One is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 out of a Formula 1 car that’s joined by no less than four electric motors, but the CLK GTR is significantly rarer and has some serious racing pedigree behind it. As for the design… granted, that’s a personal matter, but we prefer the old car.

However, this rendering of a dream Merc hypercar created by Rain Prisk could be the perfect middle-ground between the AMG One and the CLK GTR.

The vehicle presented has a shape just as sleek as the One, but adopts a more restrained and retro design. For example, there’s a much simpler front grille reminiscent of other Mercedes-Benz models. Additionally, there are air vents directly behind the front wheels very similar to those found on the current AMG GT sports car. Other eye-catching features include a roof scoop and shark fin similar to the AMG One.

Obviously, the design of the One has already been locked-in, and this is just a rendering; nonetheless, it’s an interesting take on what a resurrected legend from Merc’s past could have looked like.

Design aside, the AMG One promises to be a very exciting piece of kit, with the hybrid powertrain promising to make it the fastest production model to ever wear a Mercedes badge, and one of the fastest hypercars – period. Moreover, if five times F1 champion Lewis Hamilton has his way, an even more potent version could be built in limited numbers.
