We’re less than a week away from the world debut of the VW ID Roomzz Concept at the Shanghai Auto Show.
The electric SUV has already been teased once at the beginning of this month but over the last few days, VW quietly dropped three more photos and a GIF on its global media website. The new images reveal the rear end of the study, as well as the dashboard.
The back of the car is dominated by a massive illuminated bar that spans the entire width of the vehicle. The taillights are at each end of the bar but the rest of it can be also lit up as demonstrated in the GIF below. The VW logo is also illuminated.
Inside, the VW ID Roomzz features a massive display that starts from the left side of the dashboard and continues all the way beyond the (hypothetical) center console. Presumably, this big screen integrates both the instrument panel and the infotainment screen, not to mention other vehicle functions.
Another intriguing detail is the steering wheel, which in the image appears to be in the full autonomous mode position. The ID Roomzz is capable of Level 4 autonomous driving and therefore requires no active driver in ID Pilot mode.
VW says the name of the concept comes from the vehicle’s variability of the interior. The automaker describes the ID Roomzz as a “multi-variable all-round model” that boasts “completely new seat configurations, high-quality materials, and customizable light.”
The concept previews a big electric SUV scheduled to launch in China in 2021 before arriving in other markets as well. The production model will be the flagship of VW’s electric ID family and uses the same MEB architecture as the rest of the EV concepts the automaker has unveiled so far.
