In anticipation of next year’s Vietnamese Grand Prix that will take place in Hanoi, Aston Martin Red Bull Racing decided to put on a show using 2011’s RB7 car.

The RB7 secured 12 wins in 2011, including 27 podiums, 18 poles and 10 fastest laps, securing the Drivers’ title for Sebastian Vettel and the Constructors’ championship for Red Bull. The car is powered by a 2.4-liter, naturally aspirated Renault V8.

The Hanoi circuit will feature a high-speed, 22-corner layout, with former F1 driver David Coulthard and Red Bull development driver Jake Dennis letting loose on a patch of road that flows past the My Dinh national stadium, which will be part of the finished track.

“It’s great to have the opportunity to drive the RB7 again and to see the energy of the crowd,” said Coulthard. “It was pretty dusty out there but in fairness to the city they’re building a grand prix track on this site as we speak, but it just added to the visual aspect.”

He went on to say that it was very warm and that the energy these show cars bring around the world is amazing: “Aston Martin Red Bull Racing are the top team when it comes to bringing F1 power to people around the globe, so it’s only fitting that we’re here to mark the one-year countdown to the first race in Hanoi with our partners Heineken.”

As for Dennis, he was thrilled to share this experience with Coulthard, while adding that the “donuts at the end were great fun and to stand on top of the car with the fans going crazy was fantastic.”
