Time Attack race cars are surely among the most insane racing machines on earth and never cease to blow our brains to smithereens.
Sure, there are heaps of other race cars which are faster than those competing in Time Attack championships but very few of these are actually production-car based. What’s more, virtually no other racing machines are outfitted with aerodynamic bodywork as eye-catching or extreme.
Time Attack models come in all shapes and sizes and during a recent event at the Mugelli Circuit in Italy, it was a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X which set the time sheets on fire, recording a fastest lap of 1:49.665.

We don’t have any powertrain details about this Evo X, but it does feature a transmission with paddle shifters and clearly features a very large turbocharger. It also happens to be fitted with a rear wing which is almost as big as what you’ll find on the McLaren Senna GTR.
To put the 1:49.665 time set by this Lancer EVO into perspective, it’s worth looking at some other noteworthy lap times around the Mugello Circuit. The fastest lap recorded by a MotoGP bike at the track is a 1:46.208, achieved by Valentino Rossi during last year’s Italian Motorcycle Grand Prix. The fastest GT1-class car to lap the circuit is a Maserati MC12 with a best time of 1:48.436. A DTM racer set a 1:43.079 lap around the circuit back in 2008 and while this Evo X doesn’t quite match these times, it’s not far off.
