With its difficult turns, unrelenting length, and brutal crash barriers, the Nurburgring is a cruel mistress and has claimed many cars throughout the decades. We can now add this Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 to the list of vehicles to crash at the circuit.
The American pony car was lapping the circuit during one of the days when it was open to the public. However, the driver of the German-registered Mustang didn’t have the driving skills to match the GT350’s performance.

Footage of the crash shows the Mustang entering a fast left-hand corner with far too much speed. The driver misses the apex of the turn by at least six feet and immediately runs wide. As the tires of the Mustang scream in agony, the car understeers off the circuit, crosses the grass, and smashes into a crash barrier on the edge of the circuit.
This was perhaps the driver’s first time around the famous German racetrack and an unfamiliarity with the corner may have been his downfall. Footage of the incident also suggests that he froze when the car started to understeer and was too slow to react to try and prevent a crash.
Fortunately, the driver wasn’t injured in the incident but the same cannot be said about the car. Due to the impact, the front left corner of the Mustang has suffered a significant amount of damage with the wheel appearing to have taken the brunt of the crash’s force. The side airbag was also deployed and circuit staff were forced to remove and replace a piece of damaged guard rail.
