This is one of those incidents that tend to raise multiple questions, such as why would somebody take their sweet time doing a 180-degree turn on a road known for its fair share of canyon carvers.
Then there’s the small matter of treating that road as your own personal race track, which is just as illegal as crossing over that double yellow line. So whichever way you look at it, these three vehicles should have never met the way they did.
Luck or skill?
It’s hard to say whether the driver of the EVO was lucky not to lose control once he left the tarmac, or whether he knew exactly what to do in order to stay on top of the situation. Based on the footage, it seems as though he rode the brakes all the way off the road while maneuvering around the obstacle – we can only assume he lifted off immediately afterwards.
When the two cars pulled over, the Mitsubishi driver climbed out and looked a bit shaken up, which is perfectly understandable. As for the driver of the dashcam vehicle, one Chris Garcia (who may have been driving an Impreza STI based on his Instagram profile), he posted the clip with the caption: “I thought we were going to die.”
Hopefully all parties involved learned a valuable lesson here and will be more careful on roads with low-visibility corners.
