Would-be thieves in Germany attempted to make off with a new Volkswagen Golf GTI last week by stealing the hot hatchback from a train car, Autobild reports.
The police says the criminals attempted their brazen heist under the cover of darkness. When officers arrived on the scene the following morning, they discovered that not everything had gone to plan.
Police discovered that the thieves installed a home-made ramp on the train car and were successful in getting the hatchback off. It is believed that they then cut out a section of the guard rail running next to the train car in an attempt to get the Golf down to the adjacent sidewalk. However, the section cut out of the guardrail wasn’t big enough and the VW ended up getting wedged in a rather precarious position.

When police arrived on the scene, the car’s engine was still running but there was no sign of the people that attempted to steal the car. A helicopter was used to try and track down those responsible but to no avail. Police report that thousands of dollars of damage was done to the VW and the guard rail.
The Munich Federal Police are asking anyone who may have seen something suspicious near the Milbertshofen station on April 3, 2019 to get in contact with them.
Looking at images from the scene, we can’t help but think the thieves may have watched a few too many Hollywood films. Here’s hoping police track them down so they are unable to strike again.
