While it might only be an afterthought in most people’s books nowadays, the Citroen SM used to be quite an illustrious car back in the early to mid-70s, both in Europe as well as the United States.
It was widely recognized as being unlike most other cars of the period, and not in a bad way. The SM was said to be comfortable, sharp to drive and definitely not slow (0-60 in 8.5 seconds), although some competitors were quicker.

According to its Bring a Trailer ad, this 1972 SM is being sold as a non-running project car in need of some mechanical work in order for it to return to the road.
Of course, even if that’s not a problem for you, you’ll still want to look over the car carefully. It has a brown exterior, Euro-spec headlights (although the swiveling function doesn’t work), some rust in the battery compartment and pitting in the chrome trim. Its factory-spec 15-inch wheels are wrapped in older Michelin XWX tires which require replacement, while the hydraulic accumulators and exhaust system also need attention.

Inside, there is brown leather upholstery, tan carpeting and a black dashboard. Features include the sunroof, air conditioning, heated glass rear window, AM/FM radio, power door windows, an adjustable steering wheel, electric windshield washers, electric clock and more.
Finally, the engine, which is a 2.7-liter V6 unit with three carburetors. It’s mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and reportedly has done some 39,000 miles (62,764 km). The party piece however has to be the air oil suspension with self-leveling ride.
