Go back 15 years or so and you might be surprised to find quite a few sporty pickup truck models available for U.S. buyers. You had the RAM SRT-10, the Ford F-150 Lightning, the Chevy Silverado SS and.. this: the Toyota Tacoma X-Runner.

The truck in question here is up for grabs on Bring a Trailer and, aside from its flashy Radiant Red exterior, it also comes with a 4.0-liter V6 feeding the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

While this Tacoma isn’t exactly all show and zero go, it’s still not what you’d call a rational purchase, seen as how it doesn’t have the ground clearance most pickup truck buyers require, nor the off-road prowess.

What it does have is a factory body kit comprised of custom bumpers, side skirts and a hood scoop, plus a set of five-spoke 18-inch wheels. It also features reverse-hinged Access Cab doors, facilitating entry into the rear portion of the cabin.

Speaking of the interior, that’s where you’ll find bucket seats out front, upholstered in gray cloth. Other goodies include the stock stereo system, power windows, mirrors and locks, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

As for its 4.0-liter V6 VVT-i engine, it’s rated at 236 HP and has been in commission for 39,000 miles (62,764 km). It also packs 266 lb-ft (360 Nm) of torque, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but the manual gearbox/rear-wheel drive combo should make up for that.
