A new Nurburgring lap record has just been set – but it’s well behind the production car lap record of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR and the outright record of the Porsche 919 Hybrid.
It’s not even close to EV lap times or anything else you might have seen; in fact, this is a record for the fastest tuk-tuk to ever lap the circuit. Yep, someone thought of that, too…
In a press release detailing the feat, the team behind the lap record revealed that they imported a tuk-tuk from Thailand three years ago and have been preparing it ever since to tackle arguably the world’s most fearsome racetrack. With an “anonymous racing driver dressed in white” (let’s say faux-Stig) and two passengers in the rear, the tuk-tuk set a best time of 31 minutes and 49.46 seconds.

According to one of the passengers, “the little three-wheeler was flimsy and very unstable. Some corners were made on two wheels! We never, ever, want to do this again. It was horrible!”. No kidding…
The record was set on May 23. The team actually attempted to lap the ‘Ring last year, but suffered a breakdown on the track. To ensure the tuk-tuk could handle the rigors of the full lap, bespoke engine components, including forged pistons, were manufactured and fitted by a company which works with Koenigsegg. We have no idea how much power the tuk-tuk has, but based on the time, it’s clearly not much.
