In its home market, the new BMW 8-Series Cabriolet;s base color is Alpine White. The German configurator of the car allows users to choose between several optional shades, too, but green isn’t among them. That was, apparently, a first world problem for one particular owner.
It was solved by a very vibrant wrap. It’s called Matte Krypton Green and was applied by Fostla on top of the black stock exterior. The look has been completed by the black and white accents applied on the sides and at both ends, whereas the rest of the vehicle remains stock, including the beige leather-trimmed cabin.
While this styling would have better suited something more exotic, like, say, a Lamborghini Huracan, in our opinion it’s not totally displeasing. And the vinyl stickers could be removed without affecting the integrity of the original paint nor, more importantly, the car’s value, which is already very expensive, with the base 840d xDrive Cabriolet having an MSRP of €108,000 (equal to $120,936) in Germany.
This is, however, the 850i xDrive which goes for €133,700 ($149,714) Unlike the diesel-powered 8er and its 315 horsepower 3.0-liter twin-turbo diesel, the gasoline variant comes with a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that delivers 523 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. This setup allows it to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.8 seconds and max out at an electronically limited 155 mph (250 km/h).
In the US of A, the oil burner is not an option and the only model available is the 850i xDrive, which starts from $121,400.
