It’s the last day for Dieter Zetsche in Mercedes, as the company’s CEO is retiring and BMW was there to send him off with a humorous video.
The video imitates Zetsche’s last day at work, showing Daimler’s boss leaving his office and surrendering his company ID to the front desk to the applause of many employees.
It’s an emotional day for everyone at Mercedes, especially for Zetsche who held the reigns of the company for more than 13 years.

But after arriving to his home, driven one last time in a company S-Class, he realizes that he’s finally free of all the corporate rules and can finally enjoy a drive in his favorite car: the BMW i8 Roadster.
The video concludes with a thank-you note from BMW to Zetsche, “for so many years of inspiring competition”.
The departing Daimler CEO and the industry’s most incredible moustache has handed the wheel to Ola Kallenius today, at the company’s 2019 annual shareholder meeting.
Zetsche played a key role in restructuring Mercedes, following the collapse of the merger with Chrysler and he’s also credited with the brand’s return to high product quality and big sales numbers.
But it’s not the end for Dieter Zetsche and Mercedes, as the executive steps down from his position to comply with a two-year-long hiatus regulatory rule in order to return to Daimler in 2021 as Chairman of the Supervisory Board, replacing Manfred Bischoff.
