Citroen Planning To Unveil Dashing Flagship Sedan In 2021

Citroen is working on an all-new flagship sedan that it is expected to be launched in 2021, Auto Express reports.

While discussing the future model at the Shanghai Auto Show, Citroen chief executive Linda Jackson said that the French automaker is in the perfect position to make such a car.

“In order to be credible as a world brand, we have to have a range of vehicles that covers small cars, medium cars, SUVs and large cars,” Jackson said. “Citroen has as much credibility as any other manufacturer to have a large car. It’s just that we won’t do it in a very traditional way. We will have one. There is a market for it, and it will be coming out in a couple of years.”

Sitting beneath the bodywork of the new Citroen will be PSA Group’s EMP architecture currently used by the likes of Vauxhall Grandland X and Peugeot 508. This platform supports plug-in hybrid and ICE powertrains, but the car manufacturer is said to be working on a new version of the EMP which supports all-electric powertrains as well. While it remains to be seen if the new sedan will be offered as an EV, we know that an electric version of the Opel Vivaro van is in the works for 2021, so it wouldn’t be a stretch for the French marque to offer such an option with the sedan.

In terms of the car’s design, Citroen will take inspiration from the Cxprience concept unveiled in 2016, so it should probably adopt a five-door fastback design.
