Mopar’s Crazy Hellephant Engine Has Sold Out Its Limited-Production Run

When Mopar unveiled its truly insane Hellephant supercharged Hemi V8 crate engine at SEMA last year, we were left flabbergasted.

This absolutely insane V8 crate engine pumps out 1000 hp and 950 lb-ft (1288 Nm) and is bound to end up powering some rather crazed creations. As it turns out, however, not many people will be able to enjoy this engine as Allpar reports that it has sold out.

Mopar started accepting pre-orders for the Hellephant on April 26, selling each example for $29,995 with an additional $2265 required for the available engine kit. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles didn’t say how many units of the Hellephant V8 would be produced but has confirmed that all units have been allocated.

“Given the high demand and the hand-built, time-intensive build process, we have closed pre-ordering for the 426 Hellephant Supercharged HEMI crate engine. Based on pre-orders, the engine sold out in just two days. Customers can visit www.cratehemi.com to receive future information and updates on the ‘Hellephant’ engine,” an FCA representative revealed.

While the company hasn’t confirmed production numbers for the insane engine, unnamed industry insiders suggest that there may only be around 100 units built. If true, that figure would be quite surprising as Mopar could inevitably sell many more if it wanted to.

The Hellephant displaces 6980 cc and features 4 inches of stroke and bore specs of 4.125 inches. Customers who want a plug-and-play powertrain can also buy the available engine kit which adds a powertrain control module, power distribution center, engine wiring harness, chassis harness, accelerator pedal, ground jumper, oxygen sensors, charge air temperature sensors, fuel pump control module and a CAN bus interface device.
