Volvo has created a new free app called “Car Accident Advisor” designed to assist drivers after a collision. The service will be available in the U.S. automatically for model year 2015.5 and newer Volvo vehicles, via their in-car SOS communication system.
Older models can still use the mobile service by calling Volvo Car Customer Care, in the event of an accident that didn’t result in any injuries. The Volvo Car Accident Advisor was developed together with software provider CCC.
“For years, Volvo Cars have been immediately communicating with drivers and passengers as soon as a crash sensor is activated in the car to accelerate the emergency response process,” stated Volvo USA VP of customer care, Scott Doering. “Now with Volvo Car Accident Advisor, the application can guide drivers on what to do next after the driver has confirmed to Volvo Customer Care that they are safe and without injury.”

The app can serve up emergency services and checklists, guided accident documentation, digital insurance claims and repair services, thus making life easier for people who have just been in a collision.
After drivers contact Volvo Customer Care and confirm that they aren’t in need of medical attention, a link will be immediately texted to their smartphone, which then opens the previously-mentioned app.
The Car Accident Advisor will prompt drivers to capture facts and photos of the crash scene, while offering them the option to digitally notify their insurer and to search for repair shops, in turn speeding up claims handling and reducing repair-cycle time.
“We work hard with in-vehicle technology to eliminate or reduce the impact of crashes as much as possible,” added Doering. “In the event that an accident happens, we now have Volvo Car Accident Advisor that can walk Volvo Car owners through the entire process, from data gathering and insurance claim management all the way through collision repair. This program not only provides tremendous convenience, but will also help to ensure the car is repaired to Volvo Car’s stringent safety standards.”
