VW will start accepting orders for the upcoming ID. Hatchback from tomorrow noon, May 8, and the UK arm of the car maker has launched a special hub on its website to introduce potential customers to electric vehicles.

The new ID. Hub will be welcoming registrations of interest and accepting pre-orders for the VW’s new battery-electric model. The hub will also offer information not only for the ID. hatch but for the future members of the family as well, including the 2021 Crozz, Buzz and 2022 Vizzion.

The new VW ID Hatch will be available with three battery options: an entry-level 48kWh model will offer 205 miles (330km) of driving range, a mid-range version with 280 miles (450km) of range and a range-topping 111kWh model with around 342 (550km) of range. A rear-mounted 168hp electric motor will be present on all three versions.

“At Volkswagen, electric cars aren’t just the future – they’re the present, with the e-Golf already securing the brand a firm reputation for quality electric vehicles,” said Geraldine Ingham, Head of Marketing at Volkswagen UK. “But the next stage of our electric journey is about to start, with the introduction of the ID. family. The range is set to hit the road in 2020 as the first pioneers of our new electric technology and design.”

All future ID electric models will be based on VW’s MEB skateboard platform; the EV-specific architecture allows a wide range of body styles, including SUVs, MPVs and of course hatchbacks.

The VW ID. Hatchback will also feature an innovative lighting concept that interacts with the driver, including helping with the navigation and warning him to press the brakes if danger is detected.

Earlier today a set of photos portraying a prototype with a different camo wrap emerged online, giving us a better look at the upcoming VW ID Hatchback.
