The all-new Chevrolet Trailblazer has been confirmed for North America a few days ago but the smaller Tracker SUV will remain a China-only affair.
Many had hoped the Tracker would replace the aging Trax in the U.S. but that’s not the case. The Trax will co-exist with the new Trailblazer, at least for the time being. So what are North American buyers missing out on when it comes to the new Tracker, then?
We won’t talk about the design because the photos do that better than we could. The only thing we will say is the Trax is really starting to show its age compared to the latest Tracker.

Just launched in China at Auto Chongqing 2019, the Chevy Tracker packs the latest eighth-generation Ecotec engines. There are two turbocharged units on offer, the Ecotec 325T and Ecotec 335T. The entry-level 1.0-liter Ecotec 325T three-cylinder engine is known from the recently-unveiled Chevrolet Onix sedan on which it makes 123 hp (125 PS) and 133 lb-ft (180 Nm) of torque. The power plant is available with a six-speed dynamic start/stop shift (DSS) automatic transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox.
The Ecotec 335T is a 1.3-liter turbocharged three-pot that makes 162 hp (164 PS) and 177 lb-ft (240 Nm) of torque. Mated to a new CVT, the engine enables the Tracker to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.9 seconds. The claimed average fuel economy is 5.7 liters per 100 km (41.2 mpg US) for the bigger engine and 5.1 l/100 km (46.1 mpg US) for the 1.0-liter unit.
Tech-wise, the Tracker features Chevy’s new MyLink+ infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Baidu CarLife, and Bluetooth connectivity. The interface offers smart navigation and an upgraded intelligent speech recognition function as well.
As for safety, the subcompact SUV packs several technologies including Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Pedestrian Collision Mitigation (PCM), Forward Collision Alert (FCA), Following Distance Indicator (FDI), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), and Lane Departure Warning (LDW). A Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and reverse camera are also offered.
Available in six variants, including four Redline models, the Chevrolet Tracker ranges in price from RMB 99,900 to RMB 139,900 ($14,500-$20,250). Deliveries start in the second half of this year.
