Having recently tested the UX250h ourselves and found it one pretty compelling buy for anyone looking at subcompact premium crossovers, we were curious to find out what other media outlets think about Lexus’ first entry into the niche.
As is obvious from the “h” in its moniker, it is a hybrid and its powertrain combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with one electric motor in 2WD, or two in 4WD models, for a combined output of 184 brake horsepower.
Performance obviously isn’t neck-snapping, yet it’s sufficient for a daily driver, with CarsIreland proclaiming that it feels quite powerful on the road. They also found the steering and suspension to be well balanced, although the gearbox is slow to respond.

The drive selector gives access to three different modes. In its most fuel-efficient setting, the UX250h has a WLTP-rated consumption of 5.6 l/100 km (50.4 mpg UK / 42 mpg US), and the reviewer managed to get very close to that number, averaging 6.1 l/100 km (46.3 mpg UK / 38.6 mpg US) on average. Thus, the small crossover is more efficient than some of its diesel-powered rivals.
The test car was the mid-range Luxury trim, which is offered in Ireland from a little under €45,000 ($50,200), or nearly €5,000 ($5,575) more than the base S-Design. For the extra cash you get 18-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, leather upholstery, smart entry and others. However, if a sportier styling and even more amenities would suit your needs better, the F-Sport is the one to go for, as it costs only €1,400 ($1,560) more.
