Anything with an AMG badge is going to cost you a lot of money, but the GT 53 isn’t your “average” untamed beast created in Affalterbach, but rather the most affordable version of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe family.
Slotting above the CLS 53 in terms of pricing and market positioning, it’s powered by the same engine, namely a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that makes 435 PS (429 hp / 320 kW) and 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque. Backing it up is an electric motor that provides an extra 21 PS (21 hp / 15 kW) and 249 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque.

The hybrid powertrain is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox that channels output to both axles. From rest to 100 km/h (0-62 mph), the AMG GT 53 needs 4.5 seconds and top speed is capped to 285 km/h (177 mph).
Pricing starts at €91,808.50 ($102,802) in Germany and $99,995 (€89,290) in the United States. At this point, we would normally begin talking about the build quality, interior space, handling and so on, but this isn’t that kind of video, so instead of hearing the reviewer’s voice, the powertrain alone is responsible for the soundtrack.
The usual pops and crackles are there, although on a more restrained level compared to AMG’s V8-powered models. To us, the GT 53 sounds quite good, and that’s before taking into consideration the fact that it’s a mild-hybrid, four-door saloon with a great balance between performance, fuel consumption and comfort. Entry level it might be, but that’s only compared to other versions – on its own, it’s a darn impressive super saloon.
